hi all

had to buy a new filter today cus my old one broke :(

anyway bought a nice shiney new fluval 404 and its beautiful

problem is every so often it groans and throws out a load of bubbles

I cant understand where the air is coming for, i've checked it for leaks and its as dry as a bone

I've moved it around in case there is any air left trapped in the media but it still throwing out bubbles

any suggestions

Well, the air is getting in there somehow. It is either leaking somewhere and you haven't found it, or it's sucking air in at the inlet or part of the inlet piping.

No, it may well be appearing by total magic or some previously undiscovered physical or chemical process. Investigate it, you could win a nobel prize. ;)

What a jerk. It could be happening due to decay or some other type of biological or chemical reaction. Open your eyes. Sometimes the problems are not as simple as you might thing. Sometimes they are. But you jsut go aroudn telling people they have lose tubes on their filters. Most peopel don't and that air could be from air trapped in the unit when they first prime it or from chemical reactions or biological ones.

So stop beign a jerk you jerk

Hmmm - well if you had an idea what might be wrong then why didn't you mention it in your first post???

Who's the jerk?

www :)

um lateral was just giving her a suggestion of what to look for. he in no way said thats the only possible problem.

and as www stated, you could have added what you thought the problem was the first time and made a helpful contribution.............................

tanks, glad you solved the problem :D

I suspect jasno999 has a cow on me because of this thread. At the end of the day, you can only offer comments. It is true that decay products and whatever could produce quantities of gas, but not, I would suggest, at the rate required to sustain the symptoms we have here or in the other thread. There are other reasons, but enough. Glad you found it!

Listen. I think I have problems in my tank that go beyond jsut air being in a filter. Anbd you tell me that I probably have a air leak and that my filter is not workign right when in the end you have no idea how my filter is supposed to work because you do not own the same type and no nothing about the type I have.

I have an Elhim Ecco Filter (Canister) and it keeps an ar gap at the very top of the canister. I think it might be a normal thing cause other owners have said they too have the air gap but I need more responses.

I have done my water change and gravale vac and will continue to do so but the cloudy water problem is still the same. No worse and no better.

Hey come on!!! You know, this forum is for other people to help people with aquariums. Whether you want to take the advice or ideas, that's your choice, but you shouldn't be going around and asking questions then beating up the people who try to help you and calling them jerks! I think that makes you the jerk, not them.
Maybe you're just really frustrated with your problem with the filter, that's understandable, just TRY to keep your cool and think about what you're saying before you type it. :)
