hi i recently had a interpet pf4, and had problems all the time, so i took it back to the shop and they gave me a fluval u4, this was the second interpet pf4 in 3 weeks by the way, my first thought of the u4 is its so quiet and just seems so much better, will my tank still be cycled? i took the bio stone things out of the interpet filter and added them to the bio tray of the u4 so does that mean its still cycled?

Hi, if you put ALL your old media into the new filter and have not added any extra fish then technically it should be still cycled. However, daily testing for Ammonia and Nitrite will confirm this. If there are any signs of either then daily water changes will be required. Cut back on feeding during this time will help also.

All this depends of course on the tank being cycled in the first place......what is the history of your set up?

Even if you use just some of the media, the transfer of bacteria will keep the tank cycled, it means it will take a bit of time for the bacteria to multiply back up to spec. Any bacteria saved will technically keep the tank cycled. It most certainly never hurts to keep a close eye on levels any time a change like this is made since a decline in bacteria can cause a short term ammonia spike even though the tank is really cycled.
