hi,
can someone please advise me on what to do as my filter is on its way out its making a proper buzzing noise but i dont no what to do as im not used to all this friendly bacteria and that thanks.

its an internal filter.

120ltr fluval duo deep tank

I'm presuming its a fluval 3 filter you have then?

Could the filter simply be clogged or perhaps a piece of gravel has become lodged in the impellor?

if it is a fluval filter you can easily take the top off the filter and remove the impellor, give the impellor and the impellor shaft a good clean and hopefully you'll find whats causing the noise, (if there is a buzzing noise the impellor is still trying to spin presumably and so its likely that this would solve it)
If the pads are also looking clogged then you can clean them out in a bucket of your tank water

You should be able to buy a new impeller, if that's the problem. No need to replace the whole filter - they should last for years.

hi, its not a fluval 3 its the elite equivlent as that was the package i got last year, as for the things you told me to do i done them yesterday, when i done a water change, i think its a bearing on the motor but im not sure,

i need to set one up straight away as i dont want to go home and the thing has packed up!!

A new impeller will cost you less than £5 ... its about the only moving part in the filter.

yup, just do a google search you'll find somewhere on the web selling spares for your make/model and order in the part you need. :good:

no, its not the stingray version its just a elite internal, very similar to the fluval 2.

if i wanted to put a new filter in the tank could i put the new 1 in with the old 1 and have them both running for about a month and then take the old 1 out so there is enough good bacteria on the new 1?

thanks

Yes you could ... probably best to squeeze out a bit of the gunk from the old filter onto the new one as well.
