Hi all, my new tetratec ex1200 should arrive tomorrow what i want to know is how long should i leave it running with my original jewel filter, and then would it be possible to tottaly remove the juwel flter completely(by that i mean the cannister in the back corner).

Thanks in advance Dave

how bigs the tank? how long has the existing filter been running for?

yes you can remove the internal entirley after you've run the 2 filters together for a bit

Hi thetank is a jewel rio 180 i think its about 47 gallons, its been running for 4 months, the water stats are very good and very consistant

run them in tandem for about a fortnight then :good:

when you take the old filter off make sure you test the water for a few days afterwards, do water changes if you get readings for ammonia or nitrite but hopefully you won't :good:

Thanks i dont suppose you know how easy it is to remove that cannister, they are a bit unsightly imo anyway

fairly, they're just glued onto the tank with a few blobs of silicone or something like that.

i think you just turn it off, get a long sharp knife and slice between it and the tank and it should come free. :good:

Its arrived its arrived so excited must go and play, when the girlfriend comes home to look after lily (our 14 month old daughter)

it's actually quite easy once you see the diagrams given and compare it to the real thing.
I didn't bothered about the setting up instructions for my eheim classic 2213 as they were a few pages filled with words.I compared the diagrams given with the real filter itself and slowly became easy to install it.

Was reading a thread last night about this (can't remember where though), that was the suggestion there, with the (obvious?) warning of cutting in a direction away from the silicone that seals the corner of the tank, to avoid expensive and wet accidents :hyper:

Hey - me too! My Eheim Ecco 2236 arrived yesterday and I will be spending most of Friday night setting it up. Sooooo excited as well! I'll be running it in parallel with my HOB Fluval 4+ for several weeks until I retire the internal device. It will then be kept mothballed (not literally!) or sold.

Can't wait to get the benefits of increased maintenance intervals and hopefully cleaner and clearer water.

Best of luck with the new filter....

Irf.

The tetratec was simple and self explanitery i had it set up and running in about 10 minutes, it is running with my jewel filter at the moment and when i went downstairs this morning the water was so clear it really is brilliant my tank has never looked so clear A++++++

maybe someone can help me with this question. i bought a eheim classic a couple of days ago, and now i am having second thoughts on maybe getting the eheim professional instead. is the extra money worth it? i know it has a few more options on it.
