ive just purchaced a new filter off the net to replace my old one. i was wondering what would be the quickest way to make this new filter ready for my tank?

ive read that if you put them side by side in the same tank that the new filter would "seed" quicker and have the bacteria quicker. if this is true then how long would it take to be ready?

if you take some of the media out of your old filter and add it to the new one. replace the media from the old filter with the stuff from the new one. run them both side by side for some weeks, it seems 2-6 weeks is reccomended, lol but who knows. then when you remove the old filter, change the media back, and off you go this would seem to be the way most people do this.

media is just another term for the filter pads/ceramic noodles/bioballs...

But generally speaking, media is referred to the filter sponge/wool
