After having some trouble with water stats and cloudiness in my tank I decided that the top fin 60 filters that I had were pieces of junk and bought a fluval cannister filter. I will be installing it on satuday morning and i wanted to know what I needed to do in order to make sure I dont throw my tank out of whack, please let me know.

Yep as truck says, take all the media from the top fin and add it directly to the new fluval canister, plus all the gunge that is in the top fin as well :good:

Shouldn't have bought a Fluval then. I just loved mine for electric shocking me every time I went into the tank :shifty: My mate realy appreciated the automated floor washing feture they diden't tell him about also, though of caurse he'd rather it use tap water (and less of it due to water damage risks) over the tank water it used :crazy:

If it were me, I'd take it back and trade it for an Eheim or Marinelab canister (us brits call the latter a Tetratec) and you won't have those issues :good: Also, these two filters are less maintanance due to an increased filter media surface area and are easier to work when they do need attention :nod:

Of course which ever filter you choose to use, you have two options on set-up;

1) Run side-by-side with the other filters for about 4-6 weeks before removing the old filters

2) Place all the filter media from the old filters into this one when you set it up

All the best
