I want to get a new filter for my 10 gal which currently has a betta, 3 albino corys and 6-8 ghost shrimp... The filter in there now is a Whisper power filter that came with the tank.

First I would like to ask what is a really good filter that is moderately priced,

And second how to I go from the old to the new with out freaking my tank out?

:D

ok so I have an Idea about what kind of filter I want. How do I replace my other one without losing the bacteria?

Get an Aqua Clear, it will blow the Whisper away. If I'm not mistaken, the Whispers have those 1/2" thick cartriges, pop that out of the plastic frame, fold it up & put it under the AC sponge. Make sure to fold it so any carbon doesn't come loose.

Well what I would do is that I would move all the filter media that use to exist in the previous filter and move it to the aquaclear. I have a 10 gallon with a Aquaclear 70 (300 gallons per hour). I know you may think it is strong but all my fishes have been almost a year in the tank with that filter and they are fine. I have 1 blue rainbow(female), 3 austrailian rainbows(2 males,1 female), 1 blue gouramie(female), 2 pearl gouramies(2 females), 2 swordtails(1 female, 1 male), 1 guppy(female),also 18 swordtail fry and 20 guppy fry in seperate isolators. I have overstock my tank and with the aquaclear the overstock has never cause problems. So I am not saying to get a aquaclear 70 for your tank but my tank is fine with it and the fish dont have no problem. But I do put it at minimum flow rate.
