hi atm i have a fluval duo deep 600 tank (80 litres) it came with a fluval 2 plus but i found the filter difficult to clean and it didnt work properly. i am buying a new filter (cannister) and i have narrowed it down to a fluval 105 or 205 there is no differnce except 105 does 480lph, 205 does 680lph would the extra lph make much difference to how clean the tank is etc.. also just checking can i have the filter without holes in the back of the tank i have large slits in the back of the lid it could go through would it still work? also would the new filters be easier to maintain? and do a better job?

Hi Flame,

I've got a Rekord 70 tank (70 litres ish) and have just added a Fluval 205 to it. It is working a treat. The extra space in the 205 cannister vs. the 105 is very useful. It acts as a sump for the tank - effectively increasing the size of the tank (if that makes sense?). The filter is much easier to maintain than an internal, and has been doing an amazing job, even after only a day of running it :)

If you are worried about the flow rate, it is not too much for a 60cm tank, and the flow rate can be adjusted on the 205 filter.

The filter intake and outlet pipes fitted into my standard hood cut-outs with no probelms, so I'd imagine they would fit your Duo Deep tank easily.

Hope that helps :)

i have a 105 in my fluval uno800 and a 305 in my duo 1200 and i had to cut half of the cutout out to get the hood to sit properly. make sure you tape up the gaps though to make sure your fish don't jump

Fluvals are rubbish. In 3-4 years, just outside warrenty it'll be dead :/ Most people that recomend them I find haven't used any other brand and thus cannot compair them fairly

To summarise my thoughts on Fluvals;

compaired to internal

Better than an internal Mildly
Easy of maintanance Similar
Length of time between cleans Slighly longer
Reliability Poor compaired to Fluval internals, similar to other brands
Noise Level Similar for the first two-three years, noisier after than

compaired to other exturnals

Easy of maintanance Very poor
Length of time between cleans Very poor
Reliability Very poor
Noise Level Sounds like a jet engine, even when compaird to it's noisiest competitor...

BTW, I've ran Fluvals, Renas, Tetratecs and Eheim Eccos and hence have plenty to make comparisons with. Fluvals are the only brand I actively put people off buying, though I recomend people considering Eheim Eccos look at other ranges with Eheim...

All the best
