Hi All

Just bought 2 female DP for my 20g tank, Its been about a week now and ive rarely seen them? Just wondered whether you could give me some info. Just wondered are they a shy specie?Do you see them much?

Also do they actually puff up alot? And if so why ?

thanks for anything:)

Are there other fish in with them?? Is the tank heavily planted? They don't like fast swimming fish as tank mates and get quite harrassed and agitated by them.

I wouldn't say they are shy but they tend to be a bit nervous when going into a new environment. They will eventually come out to you when they associate you with food. Mine are always begging for food

Puffing is a defence mechanism and is quite stressful for them. They wouldn't do it for no reason. I've seen my very young baby DPs puff a few times (of different babies) for practice. The other times I've seen the adult DPs puff is when they get into a severe fight. Not nice to watch

Are your DPs eating well?

isnail is spot on as usual with dwarf puffer info, mine are always begging for food and only stop once their bellys are full and fat :) great little fish i love them :)

i think there feeding ok but there really shy so not been able to tell you much

errmmm..... perhaps you can provide a little more info about your DP tank

- Is the tank fully cycled?

- What is your tank temperature?

- What other inhabitants in the tank?

DPs are normally very active and nosy little bodies. Hopefully your DPs are just getting used to their new home. It's a good sign if they are eating well since they are picky eaters :D

Temp is normally around 26
Tank mates- 2 Pearl Gouramin, 2 Guppy, 2 Oto, Plec , Corys, Shrimp

Im seeing abit more of them bit still shy  ?????

Its not sensible to have Dwarf Puffers (well any Puffers) with other fish. The generally dont play well with others.

Your temperature is fine for DPs.

However, tankmates-wise...... Like DarkEntity says, DPs don't go well with other fish unfortunately. I guess your DPs are feeling intimidated at the moment therefore shy. But....... you will see a bigger problem later when they feel more brave. Just watch the lovely tails and fins of your other fish. If you see tiny half circles nipped out of them then you know it's the DPs

Good luck anyway. DPs are so interesting to watch when they interact with you. Hope yours come out to play with you soon.

Been in for about 2 weeks now, They are not being aggressive at all ! Just slowly floating about minding there own business! is this odd behaviour??
