Well, we just got ourselves a DP last night. They have had a pair at the LFS for about three weeks, and I noticed that once we had it in the tank, it was a bit flat bellied. After about eight or so bloodworm, it was nice and round again. But then this morning, flat again. Parasites? I have read that they are waste machines, but do they really process that fast? How soon should the bulge go away?

I will try and get some pictures later this evening.

no test kit handy, but should be good water quality. new water / Prime to taste

5.5 hex running a penguin 200 with established media, as well as Ehiem 2224 from a cold start. Penguin running until the Ehiem seeds.

temp is 79

Only tank mates are food snails and a pair of ghost shrimp

I have 2 Dwarf Puffers and they have always been like this, they are fat in the evening and skinny in the morning. Dwarf Puffers are prone to internal parasites which will keep them very thin and usually kill them, if in doubt get some medicine to treat this, even if they do not have them it will not hurt them in anyway.

If you or I ate ten cream cakes today, we would not be fat forever. Putting weight on a creature no matter how big or small won't happen overnight remember. Treat for parasites by all means but feed little and often to put weight on a DP.

I actualy overstated the "time to flat" as it seems to be about an hour or two, not an overnight thing... I think I will have to pick up some de wormer. Any recommendations for those of us in the States?

That would depend entirely upon the person
