Went to a rescue about 3 and a half hours south and picked up this great dane at a fox terrier rescue of all places. She's about a year old and 125lbs. Merle.

She almost ripped my arm off  And what's worse is she has NO leash manners. I'm thinking tug-o-war is not a good great dane game.

Whoever let her wander the streets had her ears cropped when she was a puppy and then didn't pin them (ughhh people :dunno: ) so they flop infront of her face when she plays and she looks like a rabbit and they look cropped when she lays down.

This is how they would look if they were cropped. We are going to ask the vet if they will hold up if we pin them again for a few weeks but the cartledge is already healed in this weird half up, half down position. I was thinking since she's already had all the major cutting done... if she just had to go under anesthesia for a few minutes and have a few minor cuts to get them cropped and pinned again I would be willing to pay for that, but I don't want to put her through it :/

Buuuuuuuut, that's my new dog. Her name is Dolly

I'm so happy you guys decided to get another dane  You can't do anything about the ears now, the reason you have to do it young is before the cartiledge hardens and takes on it's permanent form. Once it's settled, it's done.

nope. Tug of war is not a good game for a dog that weighs almost as much as you. I was playing with my friends and after a while it just let go and when i fell It would go and grab it out of my hand

lovely dog :D

but is there a reason why only one eye glows red, or is it the angle of the camera?

i was gunna ask about the red eye to, theres this thing that the reason ur eyes turn red is becauze of sumtin ur sposed to hav in ur eye that makes them that way so u might wanna mention that but just my opinon, im a wory wort (sorry about tipin that crp i almost broke my wrist(

She has flecks of blue in one of her eyes that at certain angles, can make her eye look totally blue. It's a merle thing. No worries :* She's not going to go blind or deaf or anything :alien:

If any of you have blue eyes (like me) you know camera flash gives wicked red eye on blue eyed people. ;)

For the leash and walking, get a nifty little invention called a Gentle Lead. It sits around the snout too (but it's not a muzzle)..it just keeps her from being able to pull. If she tries to, it turns her head and she won't like it. We use it on our furry bundle of joy who's part husky and it works great and no pain for us or her.

Congrats! She's gorgeous!

We used to have one. Then my dog slipped his nose out of it and proceeded to shred it.

hmmm...that's strange Fishy, they're not supposed to get out of those things! You had a real Houdini on your hands, eh? How the Halties..the dogs head slips right out of those ones. grrr.

Awwwwr what a sweetie ^^ I've only met two merle danes, one was lovely and one got put down for mauling someone. But, most danes in general that I've met have been absolute loves. I think her ears are adorable; reminds me of pit bull ears almost  She'll probably be just fine with the unnecesarry surgical risk of having them re-cropped.

What was the name of the rescue? Its odd how rescues just end up with random animals like that; there is a Siamese cat rescue locally trying desparately to home a zebratailed finch someone dropped off.
