I'm so very happy today because some fish I have been waiting for finally arrived. These are little  C. pygmaeus corys and 6 lovely Orange Lasers which are one of the color variations of C. aeneus.

This is what they look like:

I had to buy them by mail order because I've never been lucky enough to find them at any of the lfs I go to. The reason it took so long for them to arrive was because of the cold weather we have been having in New York. It was even snowing last night, but since the temperature was higher than it has been, they made it safely through the storm. They are happily munching on blackworms right now. :D

The dealer I bought them from is Thomashawk, and he sells on AquaBid. If you ever come across him, don't hesitate to buy from him. He was very patient with me and explained everything I needed to know. He even sent along extra pygmy corys in case some didn't make it. If anyone wants to contact him, send me a PM and I'll give you his email address. :D

There georgous love some of them to.

Just out of curiosity, what did you pay for the orange? A LFS here had some some months back, but they wanted I think about $15.00 for one. I was just curious if thats the going rate for orange or not. They are both great cories though!!! Does the dealer sell other varieties of cories? I may have to go look at his other auctions. :D

That's good to know, I had been thinking about getting a group of the C. pygmaeus guys just the other day. But then I saw the Adolfoi's at my lfs and thought they were just so gorgeous...but at $12.99 each just a little out of my reach. Will have to make a note of the sellers id for future reference!

Those orange ones are just beautiful. I've got one adolfi cory in my 40 gall and I've been waiting ages to get him some friends, but my lfs has been having problems getting them for me. But I'd rather wait and get more of them - if I can *sigh* They're expensive in the UK too.

Hi MAM :)

The price you saw at your lfs is probably the going price. The only one I ever ran across at the lfs came in with a shipment of other fish and they were asking the same. I didn't buy it because that is a little steep for me, especially since there was only one fish which means no chance of breeding it. I've heard that they even go higher too.

I paid $10 each for these. They are not mature or old fish, but young adults and I feel like I got a good deal. He also has other fish. When I was talking to him he had these corys in stock:

pygmy cories
green aeneus adult pairs
albino aeneus adult pairs
orange lazer aeneus adults
juvenile paleatus
adult similis
juvenile near-adult bilineatus (few)
adult metae
adult reticulatus (few)
C. robinae

If you are interested in any of these, I don't think he would mind if you emailed him to inquire about them.

Congratulations Inchworm,

The Pygmaes Sure are full of character.
They are also not afraid of standing their ground against bigger cories, or any fish for that matter. They will take on the Adult Male Sailfin and chase him.

Did you get Striped or Spotted.

brilliant! how many pymgies have you got? are they settling in ok? for some reason I'm excited even though they're not my fish!

The new corys are doing well, I'm happy to say.

Tonight I moved them out of the quarantine tank and into cory community tanks. The Orange Lasers went into a sand bottomed 20 gallon long tank with the gosseis, eques, metaes, juliis and melanotaeria. It's a busy tank and they quickly got over the timidness they seemed to have and are now swimming happily up and down the glass with the other corys.

This tank is a little overstocked, and this might not be their permanent home, but until I can make room for another cory community, they will probably remain there.

I finally got an opportunity to get an accurate count of the Pygmies. I lost 2 of them in the quarantine, but still have a total of 19 that survived the trip and adapted to my local water.

They have been moved into the 20 gallon long that is my panda community. In addition, there are 2 habrosus and 2 otos in there with them. It's funny because the little pandas look like giants compared to them. So far, they seem like nervous little things, and unlike the orange lasers, they are staying by themselves, in two groups.

The habrosus share the same cave as the pandas and it will be interesting to see if the Pygmies do too. :D
