New clay pot

Hey everyone,
I went to walmart and bought a clay strawberry pot. It looks just like a pot but has holes all over it. First thing I though of when I saw it was YEAH!!!! new decoration!!! WOOHOOO and it was only 5us dollars.

my question is though, will it be safe to put into my african cichlid tank where the ph needs to stay at 8.2?

Does anyone know if it will alter the PH too much?

Plain fired terracotta is supposed to be ok, but i'd soak it in a bucket for a few weeks and take some readings to be sure.

Edit: oh by the way, do you plan to put some plants in the holes in the strawberry pot? That would look pretty cool!

I never thought of that.....but no I don't think since, I want the fish to be able to swim in and out of them.

I put clay pots in mine from wally world and my PH is the same as always. I just soaked it for 24 hours and then put it in there.

When you say PH does the pots supposed to raise it or lower it?

clay pots should be fine and not affect pH unless your water is very soft.

I think clay minerals would raise pH if that was the case.
