new cichlid tank

Hey i am getting my new 200 gal tank soon from the LPS.

i was planning on making it a very atrractive African Cichlid tank with sand and rocks in it.

the fish i wish to include in my new tank are:
1M and 3 F Electric Blues
then after these have been in for a week add in
1M and 3 F Electric yellows
and i was wondering if this would work out and what other fish could i put in with them.

otherwise my other desicion was
1M and 2 F convicts
1M and 3 F firemouths

and suggestions or help thanks.

Ya know you can have more fish in that tank. I am not sure if you can mix the electrics together or not, as the blues are very aggressive, and the yellows usually arent.

ya i knew that i was looking up on other cichlids to go with them.
i have found that i may also try minagoes and chipokee's in the same tank with them.

thanks for the advice wrs i shall look into the yellow labs and electric blues.

The electric blues (johanni) will be fine with the labs. Labs are not voutwardly aggressive but they're very tough and can go with all but the meanest.

Of course, in a 200 gallon I would go with no less then 12 electric yellows, as they are grouping fish. Gender won't matter either.

Lots of room in a tank this big, you can keep any mbuna you want in there - plenty of room for anyone to get away.

o ok freddyk thank u for the useful info. i shall maybe try that as i really like and enjoi the brightness of the labs and electric blues.

would convicts and firemouths go though i have heard they are quite the agressive cichlids and my friend has recently moved his pair of convicts becuase they are bredding to much in his Malawi tank and they apperently dont get along well with his labs so he say.

You'll be criticized on this mix because of water perameters, and you'll be criticized because of the diet differences. Both valid points, but I don't even care about them.

New worlds and Mbuna are galaxies apart in terms of behavior, and this type of mix should never be touched. Even if there are no injuries or deaths, there is higher stress in the tank (most likely for the new worlds) and stress is the main ingredient in the recipe of trouble.

You're best keeping it mbuna, or making it new world. Either way you have lots of room for bottom feeders (synodontis catfish, clown loaches, etc) as well.

Personally I wouldn't put the convicts and the firemouth with your mbuna set up...not only that they have different water preferance, to me having the convicts and the firemouths will ruin your natural looking mbuna tank....JMO....

thanks for the advice guys really appreciate it eh, i am thinking of just making it an attractive tank with electric blues and rusty cichlids with minagoes in it now i have been doing some reading and looking at profiles on it.

btw my mistake it isnt a 200gal tank it is a 110gal tank.

hey Dwarf Dude, yer i have waited awhile for the saving up side. umm i am getting it from the best LFS i would have to say in Perth, which is Veba's have u been there before it really is a very good shop.
