I bought a new betta last week. He's very friendly and curious  His name is Bubble, and he is in a 30L with five pygmy corys.

He was sold as a halfmoon. I'm not sure if he is as I haven't seen him flare yet, but I don't really mind what he is. His fins are practically transparent. I was all set to get a colourful crowntail and then I saw this guy.

Unfortunately things haven't been going all that well since I added him. I used mature tank media from my existing tank but it seems I didn't use enough as I had a nitrite spike. Ammonia has been 0 though. So it was large water changes for several days, and the nitrite seems under control now although I'm feeding really lightly. And now I think he has white spot so I'm treating him for that. :( Despite this, he seems happy and he is active and behaving normally, so I really hope he'll be okay.

Wow! He looks so angelic! I love him!
Thanks :) I lost a pygmy cory today though, I found one dead in his tank. I couldn't see any signs of illness, I hope it doesn't indicate that there's disease in the tank :(

I actually have had the worst luck ever with cories which is depressing considering they are some of my favorite fish. Supposedly my water is hard and I need to use half tap/half purified to help with the problem. But doing this on a weekly basis could get pricey. I've had to give up on the poor fellas for now. :(

Thanks guys :) He is the sweetest little fish, he never flares. I showed him his reflection and he just looked at it curiously and swam back and forth, but he never flares.

Sounds a bit like mine; I showed him his reflection yesterday and he did flare at it once; then after that he was looking at it but not flaring. He swims "along" with his reflection looking at it but generally not flaring.

So pretty!

Hope he gets better soon =)

Thanks, he is all better now :) I treated the white spot for a week and that seemed to do the trick. He has settled in now and seems to like his tank.

My VT male never flares either. In fact, he's so docile that I can keep him with livebearer fry and he doesn't bother them. (Only when they are first born will he bother them) Your guy is beautiful, good luck with the treatment. :/
Oops, I just read that he's better now - that's good. :) :good:
