New Bettas Here

How about "Cosmic" and "Marmalade"

Hi StrontiumDog.:)

Cosmic and Marmalade they will be. :thanks:

They are doing well. Marmalade (the lighter one) is looking great with the rough edges on his tail just about all healed. Cosmic was in worse shape and, while he appears healthy, the tear in his dorsal fin and the deterioration at the bottom of his ventral fins is taking longer. They are clean looking so it appears to be damage and not an ongoing infection. He swims well and is active with a good appetite. :D

Beautiful little ones! Congrats.

What are you doing to help them heal their fins, aside from providing clean water? (I ask because one of my bettas has a few fins nipped by another fish and I've so far given her 25% daily water changes and also stress coat and aquarium salt.) What are your methods?

Hi GuppyGoddess :)

So far all I've been doing is changing most of their water every day. They are also eating a high protien diet of (mostly) blackworms. This has done a lot for Marmalade, but like I mentioned, Cosmic is making less progress. Since they are in the small containers, I hesitate to use any additives except the most basic API water conditioner. He's flaring more often and holding his fin higher when he swims and I think that's probably a good sign. Oh, he's blows lots of bubbles too. :)

Oooo They are just gorgeous!! Great finds and good on you for taking them out of those bad walmart conditions and giving them a new lease on life! I'm sure they greatly appreciate it!

Cosmic and Marmalade have finally been moved into larger quarters. Since I'm going to Pennsylvania to spend next week with some old friends and won't be home to give them their daily water changes, I've had no choice but to get them out of the specimen containers and move them into other tanks.

Since I run most of my tanks without heaters the choice of tanks was limited, and I didn't want to put them in a tank with pearl gouramis, who could be mean or BN plecos because of the heavy filtration they require. I wanted to set them up in their own 2 1/2 gallon tanks but when I went to my lfs I found he is not restocking them any more. I did buy two at another place but they now have fry in one and frogs in another.

Here's Cosmic before the change. His fins and tail are healed but his dorsal fin and ventral fins might not ever regrow entirely.

And here his is in a 10 gallon tank with four C. sterbai. Since this tank is lightly stocked the filtration is light enough that I hope it doesn't bother him. He seems to prefer the opposite side anyway.

This is Marmalade. The picture is a little strange but I like the way it shows off his colors.

Here's Marmalade in a 20 gallon tank with dwarf corys and honey gouramis. He's nicely enough ignoring the other fish. I arranged the real and fake plants around the filter in the hopes that it would break up the current enough to give him a peaceful environment in most of the tank. Don't you just know, with all the room he has to swim in, he decided to hang out in the little area right around the filter. I'm worried about this and hope he will come out and spend his time in the still water.
