New bettas arived!!!

woohoo!! I got my bettas 2 days ago....I took out the divider yesterday to see what would happen. The male already had an impressive bubble nest going, the female had a bulging belly. The female swam right up to the male and flipped upside-down (initiating the "ritual") . The male was like "first I have to show off...duh!" and he fluttered his tail, batting her a little. Then he squeezed her like 20 times before he could get any eggs out.....I let them "go" for about an hour. )

Now i'm expecting some fry latter tonight....

.....the odd thing is, the female never showed any sign of being "ready"......no verticle stripes....is that alittle odd or what??

they didn't wanna be conditioned. lol....they were havin a fit with that dang divider in their way.....a few minutes without the divider and they went at it!!!


fish these days...thats all they think about! spawn spawn spawn!!


oh yes...and i must note, that them pictures of betta's doing the U shape thing....it is NOTHING compared to the real thing. love really is beautiful

It has nothing to do with whether they "want" to be conditioned or not, if you want them to come out of spawning healthy and have strong fry it needs to be done. She may not be showing signs of being ready depending on what color she is, light bettas don't show bars, but most likely if you've only had her two days, she didn't look ready because she wasn't

well...in anyway, they've already done it and they are both doing very well right now. niether of them have endjured any biting or roughness besides the squeezeing.

amazing storey , most females seem to rather eat the eggs than help sometimes

ya, i know....we were so happy when as soon as she recovered from the "playing dead" thing, she immediatly went to the bottom of the tank and started looking for them. it was so cool to watch 2 betta's working together in peace )

heres how things went after the divider was removed...

1. she eagerly swam past the divider as we were removing it
2. she checked out the guy, who flared, then showed off, then went to the opposite side of the tank to leave her alone
3. while he did this, she checked out the nest.
4. he came back and started shakin his stuff at her....hitting her with his tail
5. she eagerly followed him around while he continued the hitting
6. they locked and failed to get any eggs
7. they repeated 6. about 20 times.
8. after the occasional check for eggs, after failing, they'd get back to it, then finally 3 eggs fell to the bottom.
9. daddy quickly picked these up and placed them in the nest
10. they repeated 8 and 9 more and more, sometimes releasing about 20-40 eggs in one squeeze!
11. we removed the girl from the tank, and put her in her own area treated with stress coat.
12. daddy is caring for the nest



oh can things get better than this? we're just so happy right now!
