ok not completely. We had a betta many years ago and we had one last summer. Both were in community tanks and both did not live long. :(

Now that I know a little more about them, I wanted to get one for a little tank. So we were at walmart and I always check out the bettas. Usually they have 4 or 5 and they look pretty sad. :( So today they have about 15 of them so I checked them all out and found a pretty blue one, very active. In blue water whatever that means. So we bought him, bought a 2 gal eclipse explorer tank and right now he is acclimating to the water. He's pissed. LOL. I had to put him from his cup into a baggie because the cup was actually too big for the opening of the tank (with the filter unit on it).

once he's in the tank I will take a pic. He's a cutie. the kids named him Crayola. :dunno:

OH and a question too. We saw a little girl betta that my 7 yo wanted but I wasn't sure if she could go in my community tank (in my sig). Can they be put in with other peaceful fish? Or would we need another small tank for her?

Well he's very active and camera shy to boot. He won't stay still for a second-maybe he's enjoying having more room to swim. Anyway here's a pic but it really doesn't do him justice. He is blue with some red on him.

Can help ypu with your query. Am a newbies myself. But that is a nice looking Betta.

Thanks. I put a mirror up to the tank and he flared nicely and got excited. I guess that's a good sign.

OK got a slightly better pic using no flash. It's a little blurry due to the slow shutter speed though. He was resting and relatively still.

that is a nice betta you got there, dont worry about his shyness, he'll be that way for about a week after you get him and them he'll warm up to you  good luck

ok now he keeps going to the bottom of the tank and shaking. Like doing a spastic dance. Then he just rests, then shakes again. Is this normal? At other times he's swimming about like a normal fishie.

Maybe the blue water meant he was being treated for parasites or ick or something. Does he have any indication of that? Maybe he is scratching himself on the gravel?

He seems ok. About half of them had blue water and the other half had plain. The plain water ones looked pretty bad. The blue water ones all looked healthy so I'm guessing the blue was shipping stuff and their water hadn't been changed yet. He doesn't appear to be trying to scratch or rub on anything. Just a weird shaking dance kind of thing. And not constantly, just once in a while. He's VERY active. I shut off the light and he immediately went to the gravel and laid there for a few seconds, then looked at me like 'what, are you kidding' and starting swimming around again. He's not ready for bed I guess. I'll just keep watching him.

Does he do it while you are watching only..or have you glanced at him without him knowing and he will be doing it also?

I know my VT named Tay shakes his back backend somewhat like a Cocker Spaniel lol when I come close to his tank..more so especially if he sees the silver bag that I keep the blood worms in come into sight lol.

Maybe it means he is happy to see you  .

Congrats,Gale. He's a cutie  Which tank were you thinking of for the female?

Actually the 20 is the only tank set up now. My old 10 leaked and I exchanged it, but I don't have it filled yet. My 2 pristellas are in the 20. So now I only have the 20 as a choice but later I'll have my 10 filled and was going to put either the pristella tetras (5 of them) or the glo lite tetras (same number) and a couple of ghost shrimp. I think bettas probably eat ghost shrimp though.

This one is so funny. I put a live plant in it (after disinfecting it, rinsing super good, then rinsing again in dechlorinated water) and he's looking at it like wth is this thing?? Now he's sleeping. That always makes me nervous. :-(

Here's a cute pic of him flaring at himself in the mirror. What a showoff!

btw I still might want to get one from you but maybe it would be better later next spring or summer. It's probably too cold here to ship them-below freezing at night.
