new betta won't eat

Hey Guys, I just got a new betta on thursday. I got him at petco and he's QUITE a bit healthier than the one I got at petmsart in December. Anyway, I bought some betta bites since my other betta didn't like the flakes. When I fed my new betta the bits, he just ignored them. I keep trying to feed them to him but he just sorta nibbles and then spits it back out. I read somewhere that the temperature might not be right so i raised it to 75 F with the aid of a heating pad. Today he ate one whole pellet, but I'm still worried. Also, what are the symptoms and signs of fin rot and velvet? His fins have black tips so I'm not sure if it's just his coloring or something else. He also has some bluish tint around his head and back...could it be fun rot??

Can you post a picture of your betta? It may just be his coloring and nothing to worry about. What type of set-up does he have?
As far as feeding, the pellets are good and he may pick at them for a few days or even a week before he actually eats. Bettas can be very picky when they are first brought home. Try to get some frozen foods too to vary his diet with the pellets. He will be happier and healthier if he has a varied diet and will be more willing to try whatever drops in his tank.

i made a post like this before i had the same problem. well, people said it was because he was new...since that usually is the case.....but come to find out, i just had a picky fishy....so i ended up buying him some freeze dried blood worms, and he just loves them!!!

I have a Marina Betta starter kit thing by Hagen. I am going to buy a filter and lamp soon just to be on the safe side. Yeah I think it is his coloring. Thanks!

my new crowntail is exactly the same i had my dad take me too like 3 stores looking for hhikari bio gold and he usally eats 1 spits it out and then eats it again not spitting he only ate 2 pellets today he ate nothinng yesterday and i got him thursday. he also has some whit tipped fins that are fethery that i beleive is fin rot. I got bettafix by aquarium pharmaceuticals to help him. i must have gotten him 3 different foods today. he hates tetramin granules and tetra min fd blood worms and he hasn't tried bettamin.
