he is definately a male with the plakat there are three different body shapes. he has what is called the "snakehead" shape - "Snake Fish Head and Long Body or Channa Striata Block Form Type"
The most popular type of good fighters as they are very fast, aggressive and have sharp bite. Most breeders still continuing to develop these long and slender body fighters.

Yep! They had several nice ones! Labeled as "Short Tail"

Thanks for the clarification on body types, he is less...bulky/thick bodied and longer than Joker the other plakat.

He's definitely agressive. When we brought him home I had to run to the hardware store and get a power strip so I could plug in the little heater. So Mrshouty put his bag in the 55 community tank to keep him warm and said any time a fish came near him he tried to attack it.

One big difference that I have noticed between males and females is that when they flare, the females don't have the extra membrane that comes out from behind their gills. I saw that membrane in the flare pictures, so my bet is that that one is a boy. He is pretty though! Looks a little (coloring wise) like those big female crowns that I just got last week. Those girls are as big as my males minus the finnage!

He definitely has that membrane! That's why I thought he was a male, and the agressiveness.
