Fish Crazy
Brand new betta owner here, and I'm rather excited to try my hand at keeping such a beautiful fish. I just got this guy last night from a local Wal*Mart (not the best choice, I know), and he already seems quite happy and content in a larger space.
Here are the pictures. I don't know much about him, other than he's a veil-tail, so I don't know what coloring you'd say he is. I was thinking marble, perhaps?
Sad and dejected in his very small and ugly cup.
Finally out and about in his new home (a sturdy one-gallon hexagonal tank).
Exploring the wide open spaces.
An hour or so after first being introduced.
And some poor-quality flaring pictures. I'll try to get some better ones, but he was just moving around so much that it was hard to catch a good shot. They don't even do him justice.
He is as yet unnamed. I generally wait a good week or two before naming my fish so that I don't get too attached, just in case something goes wrong and I lose them.
Anyway, I was tempted to get a second one (there was another male there that looked similar to him; I think they were brothers) and keep them both in a divided five-gallon tank, but the five-gallon is not yet sufficient for bettas and was better suited for three rosy red minnows that I rescued from one of the college's theatrical performances (they were being used for display in rather poor conditions).
