I'm not about to say that YOU didn't know this.

But if you're telling someone who is maybe a little less sure how to differenciate between males and females. Then you have to mention all the facts. Not generalise.

Yes not explaining it thoroughly enough was a mistake but I figured that if she wanted more info she could ask and I would gove a full answer. My bad.

But how does she know to ask for more info when you've made a statement like that?
No one does. That's my point.
I'm not trying to get into an argument about this. Just making it clear for all concerned :)

I have a filter it was hard to see in the pics though.
Tank Tempeture is 78 F

Ok I think the point has been made. I'm starting to feel like I'm under attack.

Thats a lovely small tank you have there. And you have set it up really natural and pretty...

wow it has a light as well

:)

Hope he is happy within the tank :D

Welcome to the forum! Luna is beautiful! Tank temp of 78 is totally fine, if it remains stable at that and does not keep dropping much lower every night. Constant temperature swings are stressful to them and preferably you don't want to go below 76 degrees as they will get more lethargic and more susceptable to disease.

Not sure which of us that was aimed at, but it is true that I didn't give enough information for the OP to then be able to sex all betta. However, I don't know of any female betta with long fins so if the betta does have long fins, it will be male, yes? All short finned betta might not be female but all long finned betta are male, as far as I am aware.

I should have mentioned the tail too. I was sort of lumping that in with 'fin'.

I thought that giving some evidence for my assertion that he was a he was better than just saying "Luna is a he".

It wasn't aimed at you. And it wasn't aimed at anyone in a negative way, it's just sometimes it's hard to type things in the light-hearted way that you'd say them if it was face to face.

I was just trying to make the point that whenever you're talking to someone who you think is unsure about something, it's better to elaborate on all the facts than risk leaving something out.

Great Betta and tank bet he loves all that space lol.
Imo it could do with more plants and a cave for him to hide in as it looks a bit bare just with the two plants and rocks at the bottom. :good:

My bettas called shimmer only recently ive thought does it sound ok to be a males name lol?!
Amazing tank, and gorgeous better !

in regards to NOT feeding flake and switching to pellets, pellets are best but they might not take them...ive had a boy for almost a year that ive tried and tried to get to eat pellets and he just wont...occasionally i continue to offer them and he wont touch them...so he gets flake as staple and his treats and peas...some just wont eat them...and hes happy and healthy enough so if you want to continue feeding flake, go right ahead. it is best tho to keep a varied diet of bloodworms, tubifex, daphnia etc (if using freezedried please soak them first until they are soft- leads to less problems like constipation- yes, fish get bloated too) and feed a cooked deshelled chopped up pea once a week or so...helps clean them out and avoid bloat.

wlcome to the forum...lots of good stuff here!

and i love him...im a softy for the red boys!
cheers

Thanks Everyone!
Yeah, I think I might get a cave or a decoration... I luv the red bettas too! :)
As for food I'll go to the pet store sometime soon and get pellets. I'm thinking bloodworms on the weekend and
a pea once a week?
