Hello all! I decided randomly to get a fish, and fell in love with the bettas! I got a Blue male Veiltail :D Looks so beautiful!

Here is my tank:

Betta seems to be happy and he's already making a bubble nest :)

Only problem thus far is that live plant is starting to be covered with a white fuzz. Anyone know how to combat this? It looks to be progressing relatively fast, ever morning there seems to be more. Nothing else in the tank has any and the water is crystal clear.

Edit:

Ok so i took out that plant (smelled like rotten garbage when i took it out), did a water change to make sure none of the white fuzzy stuff was lurking, and added a bamboo plant that isn't fully submerged (like 1/4 of the bottom of it).

This all took place about a week and a half ago. For the past 2 days hes been throwing up flakes of food. He'll eat it and spit it back out. His eyes seem to be glazed over with a whitish color. Not sure what's wrong. Please help!

lovely Betta you got there :)

the plant is actually a house plant and will rot and die when fully submerged, remove it asap.

As lilfishie said, that plant isn't actually aquatic and the white fuzz will be rot.
That tank looks quite small, what size is it? It looks like one of those tanks where the filter and heater are in a seperate compartment behind the main tank. I would be tempted to remove some of the gravel to allow for extra space as it looks quite deep for what you need. Did you cycle the tank before adding the fish?
Lovely betta though :)

Hmm...the plant should be an a live aqua plant, and it came packaged in a tube and at the bottom was a little compartment type thing with gel inside. The packaging specifically states that it's an aquarium plant and can be submerged under water? :S

Oh well, Ill try to return it. False advertising lol. What plants will I be able to put in there? Any suggestions?

And thanks for the complements! :D

Edit: It's a 2 gallon Aqueon evolve 2. The filter and the pump are separated in the compartment in the back. Is that a problem?

Can I get some help? I edited the bottom of my OP. :(

Java ferns would be your best bet as they require little attention they do however need attaching to some wood or a rock

Lfs often have this plants in their aquatic plant section, I wish they'd stop it as they aren't aquatic plants.
Java ferns as lilfishie said would be good as would anubias, cabomba, even elodea.
You need to be doing regular water changes as it sounds like your filter isn't cycled.
If he doesn't like the flake food, try & get a pellet food for him, as for the white over his eyes, I don't know, i'm sure someone will be able to help out there

ahh...just got back from work and hes just staying idle, but hes vertical. He's not moving at all. There's some food still floating around from earlier (not too much, but if he was hungry he would eat them).

I believe I know what you're talking about, they sell those at the store I work at as well, they tnd to have a stamp on top of it that says "semi aquatic"

All the "semi aquatic plants" they sell, I tell people not to buy, because everyone is absolutely right, they just rot in the tank.

Anubias nana and java fern will be your best bet. I'd reccomend anubias species for bettas, as they tend to stay a bit smaller and they have broad leaves that bettas enjoy resting on.

Nibs, lots of plants are sold by the LFS that are not truly aquatic plants. Please do not let the presence of a plant at an aquarist shop mislead you to think that it is aquatic. So called bamboo plants are also not aquatic but they will survive for a while under water. If you want a plant with your fish, go to the planted tank section of the forum and ask the people there for suggestions. I have mostly livebearers in my tanks and find that Anubias nana, java fern and Cryptocorynes work well for me with typical low light tank situations, but I am far from a plant expert, hence the reference to the planted tank section Moderated by LLJDMA2. In that section they can truly guide you to choose and then grow the right plants for your situation.
