New Baby

Well, I missed Chester Bertuzzi. I really wanted an oscar, even after having him only 2.5 weeks. I was in the lfs yesterday and they had about five baby oscars in their little oscar tank. One tiger oscar was calling my name and I had to bring him home. He's gonna stay in Chester's old 20 gallon for about a month (it's okay.. he's only about 1.5" long right now), and then he'll move into a 77. He's absolutely beautiful. He's still feeling a little shy, but he didn't pout too badly after I brought him home; he's been swimming around the tank and he ate some krill last night. I'm so excited, I think I have to do a happy dance. :kana:

yay!!!! (i'll do a happy dance in yours and chesters and your new little guys honors) :kana: :kana:

I knew it wouldn't take you long! Congrats on the new baby in the family. I look forward to hearing how its going and I want PICS! lmao!

Thanks ladies!! It's true missy... once I had Chester, I just had to have another oscar. There is such a huge difference in behaviour between this healthy little guy and Chester, it just makes me realise what bad shape Chester really was in when I brought him home. The new guy is still being pretty shy, but he's got a decent appetite and even came out and gobbled up his breakfast while I watched this morning (progress lol). I tried to take pics last night for Jeff, but he was having none of it. Hopefully, a few days from now he'll be a lot more comfortable and I can get some decent photos of him. He's just beautiful.

I can't wait to see pics of the lil guy. I'm glad you're so happy. I know how terrible you felt last week. This O will give you lots and lots of happiness to make up for it. :kana: :smb:

Good for you, they are great fish and this ones got a good home for sure
Has he got a name yet or perhaps when we get some pics we could have a poll to name him ?. All the best with "the fish with no name" and keep us posted on his progress

All the best

David :fish:

Well David, Jeff (smb) wants to name him, so we can take a poll if you want, but whatever he chooses wins the poll.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure I'll be posting about him all the time in here. I'm already in love with him and he's barely willing to show me his little face at this point. I know I'm really going to be in trouble when he starts acting like my best friend. lol

great to hear aqua'! One day I want an oscar too! Not right now though. -_-

Hey angel lover :)

Chester didn't make it. :-( He was just too unwell when I got him. I know that now for sure when I see how a healthy little oscar behaves (even one who's shy and still settling in). My new fella is beautiful, though, and I think he's starting to realise I'm the one who keeps dumping food in his tank.

Ya know, I've found that it takes most cichlids (at least the ones I have) only one, two times tops, of you feeding them for them to recognize you as the person that brings the food. My Angels, Africans, BigO and Tex and all the occupants of my 55 in my living room, they all with swim to the front and start watching the sky looking for the food to drop.
The Oscar will race to the top of the tank and hovers there with his mouth open waiting for me to drop the food in. Its soooo cool!

I'm so glad your little guy is beginning to get comfortable. Another day or so, You'll see him all the time I'd bet. How big is he? (You probably said but I forget! LOL)

yes congrats on the new oscar I hope that he brings you as much joy as chester

Hey all... little oscar update

Well, he's my buddy now. He's all over the tank, swimming around actively and begging me for as much food as I'm willing to give him. He seems to be willing to eat everything and anything, from flakes to guppies. He'll sit near the surface and look at me, then look up, then look at me again, just waiting for me to drop the next piece of whatever I've got. As you can tell, this lil guy has me hook, line, and sinker already.

I noticed some ich on him yesterday, but I cranked up the heat, added some salt, and dropped a few dropperfuls of colloidal silver on him. I dosed the tank with mal green and quinine hcl, too. Take that, ich!! There's only one remaining spot today, so I think I've got this one licked.
