I just bought a 2.5 gallon Aquarium with an air pump. I've also placed a water heater in the tank but I'm wondering what I can put in it.

So far, all I have is my betta and a snail. It's getting kind of boring. I was wondering what other fish I can put in a tank of that size. I know that the size will probably restrict what I can put in it; nevertheless I would like to what might be good.

Unfortunately there really isn't anything you can put in with your Betta, the tank is just too small. About the only thing that might be ok is an African Dwarf Frog, but any fish small enough needs to be in groups, and there definetly isn't room for a school of fish. If you even want to think about having a couple more fish in with your Betta, you would need at least a 10 gallon.

it's not a good idea to put a heater in a tank smaller than 5g.
you risk cooking your fish.
Wow... if that's the case I am definately going to buy a larger tank as soon as I save enough.

Thanks!

Assuming that I buy a 10 gallon tank and move my betta into it; what other kinds of fish can I put in the tank?

I have a cambodian bettain my 2.5g along with 2 otos because of an algae problem. I'm running two nano-filters for the tank. Only one plastic plant is in there as not to take away too much room. No heater since my room doesn't go below 70F. You can see it right there in my sig. :)

in a 2.5 u can probably put in a few zebra fish, they are very small and userally scavange. they are about the size of neon tetras but they wont nip at ur betta. he may find them as food thogh if ur not carful.

Sorry GD, I have to absolutely dissagree with you there, Zebrafish grow to 2", no way you can put a few of them in a 2.5 gallon with or without a Betta.

you cant much much of anything in a 2.5 gal...sowwy! :(

if you end up gettin a 10 gal..u can put pretty much any kind of tetra in there..they are small lil guys! and you can find em in a lot of lfs!

i think you can put tetras in a 5 gal. with a betta too?!

Not all tetras are small. Congo tetras get to be 3", as do buenos aires tetras. Sabertooth tetras can reach a whopping 30"! The usually only get to be a foot max in captivity, though. These are just a few examples of tetras that get too big to keep a shoal of them in a 10g.
