I purchased a new Rena Excel 100 watts heater for a new 29 gallon tank. The water was at 74 degrees and I adjusted the heater to 86 degrees and it would come on and off to basically maintain 74 degrees in the tank. The heater is supposed to be good up to 30 gallons. I brought it back and got a new one. The same results.

Any suggestions?? ????

Just returned once more my Rena heater and got a Jager instead, but this time a 150watts. I will place it horizontal into the aquarium and hope it will work better. funny thing about the Jager is that they have a do not submerge line at the top of the heater and on the box it says submergible. Store owner told me is because Jager does not want to pay for the CSA licensing fee to allow them to put something electrical underwater. I guess it is alright on the box though. I hope that if there is a water problem the store doesn't turn around and say,"huh, the heater says not to submerge."

Will give the heater and go and see what happens. -_-
