Hi guys, we just moved into our new place on Sunday, and had a 6ft tank delivered Monday.
we were kind of expecting it to be 360L (half again on our roma 240 4ft)
Now we have it and its this huge 700 litre thing with 15mm glass, was unsure whether to keep it or not at first!

Now we know we are keeping it....

We are not sure whether to get cichlids or marines for the tank, we are now awaiting delivery of a 8 bulb T5 lighting system, a fluval fx5 and UV steralizer.

We still need to order a protein skimmer, and were planning on the carib sea substrate.

The only thing is we havent decided whether to keep discus, cichlids or marines with a reef......

Any advice and tips would be much appreciated as the only experience we have is with tropicals (which are now in the bedroom)

One thing.... thats going to be a ***** to water change!!!
Hmm I do 50% water changes on my 100gal- draining in 30 mins, so a 25% of the 700 litre (175 gals) wouldn't be too bad.
Go with Marine if money permits, if not definitely discus!

If you can keep up regular water changes with RO water get the discus

But if money isn't an issue go Marine (still need RO water) only main expense would be the Live Rock which you could find cheap easily on AC or ebay

I'd have loads of Severums and Geophagus!

Like

1 x Red Spotted
1 x Gold
1 x Green
1 x Rotkeil

Maybe a Blue Acara

then have a male and female Geophagus Brasiliensis

about ten Rainbow fish and Clown Loaches as dithers

then a breeding group of Bristlenose plecs

...sounds like my tank :p lol

Should go for bigger fish..Blue acara's do fine in much smaller tanks.
How would the BN's survive...
The OP would be able to stock much more than that with the fx5, providing he keeps up with water changes.

Discus don't require RO water.
If opting for discus go for some grown on ones, around 4-5" inches, so unless you neglect the tank they won't stunt.Your pH should ideally be no higher than 7.5. :good:

personally i would go down the marine route as you have a great tank to start with plus you have the protein skimmer. the main expense now would be the live rock but for something like that your looking at around about 50 kg... normally this costs £12per kg from LFS..

but if you look around you can find some at around £5 per kg..

i have 20kg going .... :good:

well my 825 L takes about an hour and half at the most to do a 50% water change but when i start doing stuff like messing with the substrate and plants it starts getting alot longer lol it took me 7 hours the other day lol to do everything but it does look better for it i will redo everything every month so its not too bad :good:

you will need more than an fx5 imo try getting a sump setup on it, i have on mine its alot better for that sort of size tank imo

i would also go marine too, i would of but i already had fish that needed a big tank and i wanted to keep them lol :good:

I would go with a mixed med/largish cichlid tank. Oh and invest in a python, makes waterchanges on big tanks a piece of ### :good:
