Update: I think my Green Terror may be a male...
I've always read about females being 'a drab olive green' and mine has never been drab, always been very colourful. Recently, she/he has got truly stunning in colouration - every part of the fish is covered in irredescent colours. She/he has a real metallic sheen and their fins are very colourful. The dorsal fin, which always been rounded has started to sharpen a bit, and their forehead seems to be getting bigger. Also there is a lot of orange fringing on the tail, whereas females apparently have a thinner fringe. It is a waiting game as she/he is still only 2.5" not including the tail, so could still go either way. I could have an exceptional female, or a beautiful male.
It doesn't matter whether it turns out male or female really, careful consideration to stocking was always going to have to happen. They are getting on fine with Boris, my oscar, so that's all that matters now.
Boris is hilarious. He has begging down to a fine art, proper 'baby-bird-like' mouth gaping, wagging his tail and body when I come up to the glass. He is SUCH a greedy fish, I've never seen anything like it
I feed the fish a mixture of food, and he will typically have a couple of Hikari cichlid gold pellets, some Dorimin cichlid pellets and a few mouthfuls of an algae wafer. He's not too keen on the tropical microwafers though. I gave them some chopped prawn the other night. He came up straight away, took it from my fingers, then sat about trying to eat it
It was far too big for him to eat at once, but he was detirmend not to relinquish it. Instead of doing as most fish do and grabbing it, eating a bit, spit out, grab again, eat a bit etc. He holds it in his mouth, even when he can't close it. He goes in the corner while he eats it, then when finished is straight away back to the surface begging for more
He is a messy devil, but a fabulous fish. I can see why people love oscars
He's growing really well
So anyway, I am now considering a single convict and a red tail shark, with my L075 on the bottom. Would he be OK, as he's still quite small? No one ever bothers him.
