im still cycling my new 55g tank but have changed the inside and added a few more hiding places as im thinking of getting some cichlids still toying up with that or having larger community fish. or both have found a few cichlids that seem ok with some community fish anyway what do you all think? bit over the top or does it look nice?

It looks great. However, just from a layout standpoint, the left half of the tnk looks a bit drab compared to the right. I would think about rearranging the wood. But that's just my opinion. I really like your gravel.

Thanks i took a plant out today as it was dying but i added 2 rocks and some wood to make another cave think ill leave it now as its looking quiet good i think what do you all think?

looking good! :D personally I prefer plain black backgrounds but to each his/her own.

looks nice cant wait to see it with fish in

i was going with plain but thought the rock back ground went with the kind of natural theme yeah im definatly swaying to the cichlid world for this tank.

It looks nice, what size tank is it? I think you should combine your two caves and make a big one and put something in it, but thats my opinion (I like to be experimental).

Great start  Any reason why your outflow is directed directly downwards to the intake - that's really not ideal, as your water is not getting optimum filtration.
You need to point it more at a horizontal angle - but if you wish to lessen the flow, you can direct it slightly down and towards the back.

Neal - not all fish like to share a cave - the more caves the better ;)

i thought the intake was the slits in the top on the front of the box as you look at it? if its not where should i angle it?

thats very nice but wouldn't a few more plants make it look bettter?

I believe with mister on this one,
Many tanks are sort of left unbalenced, You have a big feature on the left- So you could try and have one on the right- I got a rock and just stuck loads of wood round it and it looks reasonably effective
Look:
This is an old picture before i added the plants to let you see how much of a difference it makes having more than one focus point.

I was going to but am going to be housing cichlids so they would get ripped apart

I was looking at the tank as you look at it in the flesh it doesnt look unbalanced and i didnt want to clutter it up the root i have on the left has the plant that will eventuall grow around it with some training and its ideal for the fish to swim in out and through

Yes that's right. But buy pointing the outlet directly downwards, your water isn't getting much circulation at all. Best to angle it as I've described :)
Just try it out and see what works best for you.
