Hello All,

So I thought I was getting a free 15 gallon tank, it's actually 10, but I am still happy b/c it was freeee! Got it from a relative over thanksgiving, they didn't want it anymore...

I transported the 2 fish that were in it in a minnow bucket with a battery powered air pump. The tank was filthy so I gave it a good cleaning, as well as the fixtures that were in it. The filter was shot, so I am getting a penguin bio-wheel 125 tommorrow. I used the gravel that was in the tank, as well as transporting some of it with the fish. I really hope it still has some of that good bacteria in it so it doesn't have to re-cycle. I put all new water in it (treated w/ bio-safe) besides what was in the bucket. I did not clean the gravel.

I believe the fish in it are gold fish, does anyone know what species(pics below)?

Also, they have some shiny scales(see pic below), is this normal? are they healthy?

I plan on cycling the tank with the goldfish, then giving them away and getting a single figure 8 or green spotted puffer for the tank.

Comments are welcome!

DIFFENTLY not goldish they are tropical fish so i hope there is a heater, now as for their name i just can't remember it may be clown rasbora but i don't think so it could also be a barb of somesort maybe a ticto barb

Yeah I don't think those are goldfish. But I don't know what they are all I know is that I don't think they are goldfish. Nice tank though!!

Hi ryansfish5g :)

Nope, they're not goldfish! Both of your tanks are beautiful! Best of luck with them!

Thanks for the info!!!!

Hmmm, now that I know these aren't goldfish, I kind of want to keep them...They are very entertaining to watch swim around the tank....

Another question; my 5 gallon tank stays around 75-83 degrees, usually close to the middle of that. Do I need a heater for it? also, would the 10 gallon be different? do I need a heater for it? I will get the filter and a thermometer today!

Hi ryansfish5g :)

If the temperature varies that much, it would be a good idea to have heaters.

While the temperature range is ok, the real problem is that there could be a sudden drop in temperature from the highest to the lowest. This is more dangerous to the fish than the cooler temperature. It weakens them and could result in an outbreak of ich or other disease.

IMHO, keeping the temperature steady is the most important thing.

acually i think those are neon rosy barbs. look........
