i am soon to convert my garage into a kitchen but in my garage is where i keep all my cory tanks etc etc. i was going to set up a small fishroom in the current kitchen but i fear that there isnt going to be enough room and as its in the house it needs to look nice...
so heres my other option, to get one big tank the width of the room which will be 180G but wouldnt mind keeping bigger fish possibly dats, red spotted sevs, leopard bushfish etc etc. so i am left with no home for my corys as i fear they may get munched....! which im not prepared to take a risk on as ive raised these corys from young and wouldnt want any harm to come to them. they wont be able to go in my 55G as its now set up at 30C for the discus. i am trying to talk my way into a small tank in the new kitchen somewhere but i dont think it will be of size to accomodate many of the corys and will possibly end up a planted shrimp tank due to size and the fact that i have loads of nive shrimp in a tank in the garage and it would be nice to show them off.

so it may be that i have to give up my corys  or set the new tank up as another com tank which im not sure i want to do as i already have one and just fancy bigger species!

i really love my corys and if there is any hope of keeping them then i will but as i said i just dont want them to be eaten or damaged by some big boys.....

Could you squeeze a couple of smaller tanks in bedrooms or hallways?

I have a 2ft tank in my bedroom which I use as a grow out/quarentine/hospital tank periodically and it sits nicely on a table in a corner, I used to have a 3ft community up there. As long as you have quiet filters it is no trouble!

NNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Dont get rid of the cories (or if you do let them come to Aunty Amy!). I would go with indigoj on this, is there ANYWAY of setting up a tank suitable just for them in the bedroom? I do agree they probably wouldnt be overlly happy in with all those much larger fish or being cooked in with the discus...Is there a way to get a tank just big enough in the kitchen to accomodate them and the shrimp perhaps. Sell the idea with your combining and less electricity and frees space in the garage etc?

i have been scratching my head and trying to find a space for them but we have 3 bedrooms the smallest is for the baby thats due in july, the next is for my daughter who is 2 and i dont really want tanks in with them. so that leaves the main bedroom but the wife has 100% said no fish in the bedroom...... there is an area that would fit a 3ft tank as well
there is no room in the lounge/hallway and the conservatory already has a 55G tank in so no room there either..... that only leaves the new and old kitchen. the old/current kitchen is very small and with the 180G tank and washing mashine + tumble dryer and sink thats more or less full! the new kitchen isnt massive as its a garage conversion but i have convinced the wife to allow a small tank in there but she wants something like the fluval edge.... or similar sized tank!
so i really need to do some begging perhaps to see if they can squeeze in the new kitchen somewhere.....!

but to be honest it doesnt look good........

:( :( :( I agree not a good idea in with the kiddiwinks. The section in your bedroom, curtain perhaps?? Get begging and pleading and gifting! Show her the shiniess of them  say they will compliment the new kitchen

Ohhh that would be terrible to have to give up the cories,i do hope you can find somewhere to put them...

You'll just have to build an extension and make a fish room  seriously though i do hope you can find room for them :good:

Ask the mrs why she's so against fish in the bedroom?
I have 2 tanks in mine and they help me relax every night before bed, both externals as well, so no noise, noisiest thing are the hybrids going nutty for food :D

You could down size but don't let them all go. That would be so sad. I'm sure you could fit a tank some place for them.

ive looked and have sadly come to the conclusion that unless the fish in the new tank wont eat the corys or attack them, which i doubt as im looking at predators...., then i will have to offer them up for sale

its nothing 100% yet but ill offer them on here to the cory folks first :good:

i have -

a breeding group of 8 peru gold stripe corys with a couple of young fry that i left with the parents#

a breeding group of 10 peru green strip corys

im in Leicestershire and can deliver within the midlands for fuel costs but would prefer collection if poss. open to offers.

they will need to be rehomed before we start our building work on the house so within the next month or so.

I'm sorry to hear this, mattlee. :-( I hope this doesn't mean we won't be seeing you in the cory section any more.

still trying to find a way of keeping them but it doesnt seem possible, such a shame as i really love these little corys and it has taken alot of searching and travelling to get these 2 groups together....

ill still be in this section quite a bit as i just love to see and hear about other peoples corys :good:

There are some larger nw cichlids that are ok with corys. Cory cats are well protected and are every hard to swallow for most fish. Severums would be fine with some good size corys. Blue acaras are great with Cory cats too.

What big fish are you looking to keep?

ive been looking into datnoids and was told that it isnt a good idea to have corys with these fish, also been looking at red bellies....

work on the garage has been put on hold for now so im not in such a rush to rehome the corys now but as soon as the work starts i feel they will have to go......

Can't Sterbai Corys be kept at higher temps? With the discus?
