Well, after a year and a half alone, other than a few pest snails, I got Fred some playmates. A few ghost shrimp, if he eats them fine by me. If not, a good clean up crew. And six black neon tetras. They were on sale, and large enough that if I did have a problem, they wouldn't be lunch in the angel tank.
Well, mister flares at the other betta he sees in the glass, me, Mrs. doodle, and the dog shows no interest in the tetras. But what was funniest was when a shrimp plowed into him at full speed before going around, as he wasn't moving.

Ummmm, is there a question, and im confused i just see a bunch of names lol :p

Hmm, you sure its a ghost shrimp?

Have heard macrobachium which looks like ghost shrimps but has longer arms with claws/pincer at end will attack anything that may be in ill health or dead.

Other than that, not sure.

Sorry Sawickib, just a comment on betta temperment.
Ch4rlie, yeah they are ghost shrimp, I triple checked that. Wanted red cherries, but took what was at hand.

Yes, some bettas are lax enough that shrimp can survive in the tank with them. Its pretty rare but happens.

I have cherry shrimp with one betta and they are fine.  However, the betta has his fins full with his endless supply of Endler fry snacks. Plus I have tons of hiding spots.  In my five gallon with just a betta that is pretty bare, a shrimp might last two days, haha.  Betta are silly critters, that's for sure!

I have Amano Shrimp with my boys, and they seem fast enough to get away, plus of course plenty of hiding spots.

All in all, right happy. My boy is more active than he has been in a couple of months.
I really wanted some company as I know how inteligent bettas are, and him being alone all day. When we are at home he will camp out at one end of the tank or the other, depending on who is sitting down.
Now I know, he is okay I will swap the blacks for normal neons, as the blacks are kind of large for a 10gal., and large enough not to be gobbled up by my juvi Angels.

Sounds like you are in luck :)

Mine has kuhli loaches for company. He does seem to enjoy prying into their lives!

I have a horned nerite with my betta.  He tried to bite one of the horns on day one and scared himself silly... not approached the snail ever again!  LOL
