ok i havea 50L tank its going all good the fish are happy
even the babies are thriving

i have tested the levels of ammonia and nitrite from the start
basically both have peaked i treated the ammonia but obviously i cant treat the nitrite
how long does it normally take

i must have been measuring 2.0 to 3.0 mg/l for about 2 weeks now
how long until they equalise normally

It can take anything up to around 2 months I'm afraid.
In my opinion you shouldn't get rid of the ammonia while a tank is busy cycling as it will just take much longer to try and complete the cycle :/

1 more thing im going to add is i have the juwl rekord 60 tank
not the filters that come with them arent very good

so i bought a little filter i have them both runnin could this cause overfiltering

Unless the filter is faulty, it really should be fine. And unless you have an overstocked tank (which obviously at the moment you don't) you don't need the extra filter. So even though in most cases and extra little filter does no harm (and is good to have as a spare for a hospital tank) just be careful that you don't cause a whirpool or opposing currents ! :)
