Hey everyone.

I have Nero 7 Ultra Edition which I have been using for burning my movies of family events etc from my digi cam to DVD's
All has been fine til last couple of time when I have burnt the films to disc it either records some of it and misses the ending out, Burns but the disc is useless.

It's taking 2-3 burns just to get some home movies onto disc!!!

I have no idea whats happened with it since it used to be perfectly fine.

Oh one thing I have noticed is normaly when I have done the movie I get a pop up saying it's finished and do I want to save etc.
That no longer happens the disc drive comes out and Nero seems to vanish from screen.

Hope someone can help promised my cousin afew discs of her wedding but at this rate it's gonna take 15 discs for 5 working ones.

i would re install nero, but be careful to clear all the programs files, inc the reg files, before you do so.

How do I clear everything out?

Dont clear everything out just yet.

How long have you had the DVD Burner ? and what make and model is it ? Some makes and models have a very poor laser. Have you changed the disks for another brand at all ?

You need to do some diagnostics first, for example check the speed at which your DVD burner is burning,

Had the Burner around 4 months and never had a problem with it b4.

I have an upgraded version of nero anyway so really just wanna get 7 out and hope the new one works better.
How do I clear it all off so I can add the new nero?

Still using ASDA discs which I have been using for god knows how long now haha.
The speed is also fine I have never had a problem til last few weeks.

You dont normally have to clear it off, depending on the version. Just install is as normal and see if an upgrade screen comes up. If you have to remove it all, remove it from the control panel/ Add remove programs in XP or in Vista Add Remove Programs

use the un install in add remove programs. then use a program like Registry mechanic. and to finish i use windows doctor to check it. i always reboot after each stage, bu thats just me.

Nero 7 had some issues when other audio-video, burning programs were added. causing many problems, all of which made Nero shut down or crash. and it is a swine to re install without a total clear out, as above.

as i have said, Nero 7 has issues with reinstall without a total clear out. and it is more often than not likely to happen if you have downloaded an upgrade from Nero.
whilst it is possible, the burner has developed a fault, it must be better to reinstall the software before you rip the thing out and go shouting at the retailer, especially if it does turn out to be software in the end.

What speed are you burning at? always burn at 4X even with 16X discs.

If you do this then you wont get no overburning on the discs and every copy will be spot on ;)

I had a similar problem with my burner recently. It would say it was burning a disk and then stop after it was supposedly finished. But the disks were stuffed and never had anything on them or couldn't be read. I increased the speed I was buring them and it helped but then it started happening again. Turns out the burner was on its last legs. It was a Sony and the 2nd Sony dvd burner I have had shi t itself after only 18months. I'm not a happy chappy when it comes to Sony products anymore.

As for burning movies I make them with Nero and write them to the hard-drive. Then I use Clonedvd to copy them to a disk. Clonedvd will fit a movie onto the entire disk without wasting any space. Nero will usually try to make the movie fit as either a hi res dvd, medium res or low res. Unfortunately this doesn't always fill the disk with data and you often end up with a low resolution dvd squeezed onto half a disk.

i have heard of issues with some discs, though not these ones, where the software is unable to finalise the disc. this has been known to cause the burning software to shut down. it might be worth trying some different discs, just in case these Asda ones are a bad batch, you never know. looking at the support forums, this is not that unusual, disc quality seems to be a major issue, along with the clashing with other burning/converting software, most notably Roxio!
