I noticed holes in shell of my snail. I didn't notice these when i got them on Wednesday but did see white damage like a scrape on one shell.

Another snail in different tank also looks like opening in top of shell.

I got 3 snails on Wednesday.

Calcium deficiency, I had that problem with my nerites! I just added some cuttlefish bone and after a while the shell was fine. They need calcium to grow their shells. I'm sure others will have different ideas and opinions, but that's what I did.

Just about every nerite I've bought has had the pointy end missing. Mine also have pits in their shells as I have soft water but I have one that I bought in 2011, and another bought at the same time died only a few months ago, so they can survive with eroded shells.

Do you think that would take affect within 2 days though?

@essjay My water is 250ppm. Hopefully not too hard.

Your water is not too hard for nerites. Did you look for any damage when you got them? You mention seeing a white scrape which could easily be damage from wherever you got them.

The damage cannot be repaired by a change in diet. The shell it not alive and cannot repair itself. hard water typically has more than enough for the snail to enlarge the shell has the snail grows. If the damage gets worse it could be due to acid erosion of the shell. Keep the PH at 7 or higher to prevent acid erosion.

Yeah one definitely was damaged. Didn't really check them over and probably should have. They came through delivery. I don't mind as long as their ok.

My pH is 8.0 so not too acidic ;) hopefully it's ok and they don't die on me.
