My (previously healthy) cherry shrimp tank has become completely infested with ostracods (seed shrimp) - enough to make the water look cloudy. They seem to be outcompeting the shrimp and one snail for food. I did a lot of research and have concluded that the only sensible way forward is to start again with a completely new tank/substrate/ plants/rocks/ filter etc. etc. etc. I have already set up and cycled the new tank and am planning to move the cherry shrimp and one nerite snail into it. THIS IS THE QUESTION - Does anyone know if the snail could carry ‘hitch-hiker’ ostracods from one tank to another? They seem to have several possible life stages, including cysts for adverse conditions, and I’m worried that I might just be moving the problem via the snail shell/flesh folds to another tank.
