I recently added a Zebra Nerite to my 5g Chi. I already have a healthy and active Zebra Nerite in my 20g.

However, the Nerite in the 5g keeps coming out of the water, half of its shell is out and dry.

Why? Is it trying to avoid something? Bad Water Stats? Aggressive fish?

I have a female betta and ADFs in there, but the ADFs could care less and the betta sometimes pecks the shell, but nothing else.

Tank has been established for almost a year, stats came back normal, I have just done a water change. Snail nibbled on an algae tab. Temperature is ~76 degrees Farenheit and pH is lower end of 7.

They're little escape artists, I don't think it's trying to get away from anything.
Although if it's getting pecked at I'd move it to another tank. Hopefully the betta gets used to it soon and stops

I have two of these guys, great for clean up crew! One of them stays around the bottom and the other is like your's always up at the top of the tank. It does go all over the tank but spends most of it's time around the water surface - I worry about mine for this reason as well but it's always done this and I'm sure my stats are fine.

Thing is now, he stays above water 90% of the time. I squirt it with aquarium water using a turkey baster so he doesn't dry out.

It seems only at night time he slithers down an inch or so into the water. But I have yet to see him crawl on the sand, wood, or plants. And he stays up in corner mostly.
