Put the tank light on this morning and my 4 neons were pale , they seemed to be getting their colour back but I had to go to work so I won't see them for 12 hours now ...

They have been resting/asleep mate so their colours wont brighten back up until they liven up again. :good:

Happens with my rummy nose every morning mate

once the light has been on for about 30 mins to an hour their little red faces re-appear

*giggles* reminds me of my early morning panic stricken water change and testing. As already stated, perfectly normal. It's like the blood in our body doesn't keep full flow to the parts we don't need when we sleep - it's the same with fish. My neons look deathly ill first thing in a morning, and they always look at me as if to say "awww mum! 5 more minutes!" :p

That's what did , I swear they yawned when I put the light on lol ...

My false neons completely lose their blue in the dark; the stripe goes a coppery red colour! Totally freaked me out the first time
I saw it.

Its a survival thing. My Cardinals do the same, if you are asleep you probably dont want to be the brightest coloured thing in the water.

Reminds me of a week or two after my fishless cycle on my first tank, awoke one morning to find my Neons all 'pale'..cue a mad rush down to the shed for bucket and siphon.."what on earth is wrong with you?" asked Mrs.Apple.."my fish, they're dying". But no. A full set of water tests and a 50% emergency water changed proved it was totally natural.Lesson learnt.

Terry.
