Neons, Cardinals, Glowlight & Black Neon's

Shoaling is a defensive behaviour. In a shoal of fish, an individual is less likely to be attacked/eaten.

Small fish of many species will shoal together if they feel threatened. In a typical crowded tank, shoaling is not seen that often. 10 Neons in an 18" tank will tend to drift apart and do their own thing. Put the same 10 fish in a 6 foot tank with a lot of open water and they'll stick together like glue.

as "lateral line" said, almost any fish will school. they need plenty of area, some of those fish are:
>tetras (any kind)
>barbs (almost any, usually the smaller ones)
>cichilds (angelfish, discus, africans,hatchetfish, etc.)
>guppies (about the only schooling livebearer i can think of lol)
>and a wide variety of marine fish ( which i won't go into)
>catfish (a few species will, but i'm not sure of the exact ones, i'm not a catfish person)

so as you can see, pretty much any fish you would want to keep.

When I first bought my 55 gallon many many moons ago I wanted to cycle the tank with a few fish.....so I put in 4 zebra danios (big time schoolers), 4 baby tinfoil barbs, and I forget what the others were but it was like 4 of them of the same size as the others.

They had so much open space and there were so few of each species....they all schooled together. Quite funny.

Thanks Very Much for the info guys :) , I got 1/2 dozen cardinals for my tank today might get some glowlights or black neons later
