i was wondering if you could put guppies with neons. I have heard tat sometimes they might eat the guppies tails but i just wanted to make sure as they are a really nice fish and blend in with my colours. Thanks.

Guppies and neons aren't an ideal combination because neons need soft, acid water and guppies like moderately hard, alkaline water. While you can keep neons in fairly hard water that is slightly alkaline, they tend to be short lived.

If you want neon-like fish, I'd suggest Celebes rainbows, which are electric-blue and yellow. They're very peaceful, and provided your guppies aren't too small (e.g. male Endlers) they should get along fine.

Cheers,

Neale

No question it's possible, it just isn't optimal. Cardinals are actually a bit hardier than neons because they're wild-caught and not tank bred. Neons in particular seem to suffer from this mysterios "dying one at a time" process, with people who keep them losing them gradually over the months.

I know lots of people who keep neons in hard water, but few of them keep the whole school of neons alive for 4-5 years, which is how long they should live. If someone's neons are all dead within a year or two, then they haven't kept them properly and something they did killed them prematurely.

In neutral, medium hard water, guppies and neons could get along fine, but the best conditions for either are soft, acid and hard, alkaline water respectively.

Cheers,

Neale

I have guppies and Cardinal tetras together with no problems - they make a nice combination
