Hi
I have just recently took up fish keeping and didn’t realise there was as much to learn, I am enjoying my new hobby though. I have a 60L tank and if all goes well might get myself a larger one at some point. However about two weeks ago I introduced 6 neon tetras, 1 died within a couple of days all the rest look fine however mainly stay in one small area of the tank only venturing out at feeding time, my question is, is this normal. I have 4 Platy and 6 danio as well.
I know I have so much to learn but am sure I will get there
Thanks in advance

Do you know what type of water you have? Hard or soft? You can check with your water provider to find out if you do not know. Tetras are soft water fish where your platys are hard water fish, the tetras may take time to get use to you tank. Can you post a picture or two of the tank? Also most tetras prefer shade and avoid bright lights if they can.

Paula it's a known fact that you can lose fish within 48hrs of purchasing them through to adjustment of tank and waters and they're fine with your other fish.

It sounds like the fish are stressed out. this could be from poor water quality, bright light and not enough shelter, or something else.

If you could provide us with some pictures and a short video of the fish it might give us more to go on.

You should also test the water quality for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH.

Hi Paula,
Welcome to the forum.
You're come to the right place to learn!
Sorry about your fish. ♡

I have check all these all fine except ammonia levels are quite high I have done a 75% water change and will keep checking until I get it down. Thanks for the response. I will send videos or pictures in the future

Thanks for the reply. My tank is quite bright I will sort out more shaded areas for them then. I will also find out about my water as well as this also makes sense cause my platys seem in their element.

Paula how high are your levels :)
Not sure as am new to this and the test is colour coded but near the bottom range which is high. I have so much to learn when am reading other post am thinking that I am clueless suppose I need to start somewhere

Just found out it’s soft water hope they get used to this

Soft water is fine for neons - but not for platies, which are hard water fish.

Paula you'll get there in the end, as we all start somewhere and everyday someone learns something new such as myself about driftwood today never having it ;) but members will help you along the way :)
