Neon Tetra's

Right I have 3  large Neon tetra's, I know I should have more but the only Neon's I can get hold of are tiny ones and the last time I put these small neons in my tank they got eaten. 
So the 3 I have do not stay together they stay in there own part of the tank separately is this normal behaviour for Neons and not in a large enough numbers?

125 gallon tank. The suspects are Angel fish, Female krib and Common Plec.

Angel fish usually eat neons.
