Just looking at pictures of tanks on the internet and I have decided I would like a shoal of neons....

Thing is, how many do I need for them to look good? How many can be kept together?

IMO, the minimum is 6. The maximum depends on your tank size. I currently have 13 cardinal tetras in a 90 gallon tank. PLan is to move that number up to 40.

Hoefully I will be getting a new tank soon.... Not sure on litres/gallons but it should be 7ft x 2.5ft x 2ft

Would like 100 or more if possible as I have seen a tank in Maidenhead Aquatics in Thornbury (Near Bristol) where they have about 100 neons and 4 discus which looks anazing :hyper:

I may go up there again soon so I will try and get a pic

you could very easily hold more than 100 neon tetras in a tank that huge! That tank must be around 250 gallons; 100 neons will still look empty!

Wow that is going to look amazing!!!
Is it just neon's you want or are you going to put some other fish in there too?
my tank is going to be 4ft, 31 gallons and I am having (so far decided on) neons and platys :)

woooh that would need to be beautifully planted with some discus, that would be a beautiful site, in the aquarium where i live they have aload of neons in a huge 2000+gallon with convicts and plecs, its stunning...
i however would stock the tank different but what you want :good:

Just roughly worked it out online and came up with....

You provided measurements in inches:
Width: 84" (213.36cm)
Height: 30" (76.2cm)
Depth: 24" (60.96cm)
Your tank's volume is approximately 60480 cubic inches or 261.82 U.S. gallons, which is approximately 1018.47 liters

Are US gallons and UK gallons pretty much thesame thing?

Good idea, except, neons and discuss like totally different temperatures. The neons will like in such a high temperature, but not for long, maybe 6-9 months from what I have read. I think cardinal would be more well suited, if you can maintain the low pH that cardinal need. hope you have luck. Oh, and I would stock that tank waaay differently, but what ever floats your boat.

Cardinals will do fine in any range of pH if he chooses this route, as you are correct DISCUS and neons aren't a good mix.

Sorry, my spell checker did not catch that mistake.

a tank thatis 260 gallons would weigh well over 2500 pounds.... you realize thats more then a ton right.... better have a stand made of 1/2'' to hold that up mate... and a floor that can hold that up...
