i have two black neon tetras. i cant tell what sex they are can anyone help. one of them is much fatter than the other but has been for a very very long time

I have 4 back neons in my community tank and they are lovely fish. They tend to hang more round the middle level of the tank so you see more of them then regular neons that stay mainly at the bottom.

I have also ben wondering what sex mine are because they all look the same to me!

taken from wikipedia:

"The male is slender, and the blue line is straighter. The female is rounder, producing a bent blue line. Some say that the females look plumper when viewed from above but this is disputed. However, the 'straightness' of the line and the plumpness of the female might occasionally be due to the eggs she is carrying. "

Although they maybe similarer looking than other Tetras, the Neon and Black Neons belong to different family. And the difinition above is for regular Neon tetras. Black Neons do not have blue line. However, they are similar looking, it may fit for Black Neon also. I don't know since I never owned Black Neons.
In overall, females are more plump than males in Tetras when the females are fed well to be egged.
