Hi All,

I believe one of my neons has neon tetra disease.

It has a growth in its spinal area and when swimming towards the glass, the mid-part appears bent.

It does not appear to have difficulty swimming though has been less active.

No other fish have this, though 1 cherry barb died suddenly last week. It was 4 year old.

Quick stats in case:

180L Juwel Rio tank
18 Neon tetra
4 Cherry Barbs
2 White Cloud minnow
2 corydora catfish
5 red eye tetra
1 dwarf gourami
Been setup for 11 months

No water stats at present.

Many thanks for any help!

I've just euthanised 3 neons because of suspected NTD. Other symptoms include discolouration or seperation from the shoal. Mine were less active, badly dicoloured and one was extremely inactive. There's no cure and if they have it they will die. If other fish pick at them once they're dead they will catch it too. Other fish may well pick at them while they're still alive. It's extremely contagious, deadly and there's no cure. I say euthanise it and safeguard the others, then do an 80 or 90% water change.

You're most welcome. If possible you should quarantine the suspect fish. Good luck with it :)
