I have one neon that has developed a rounder belly and is a little "thicker" then the others. I know they ususally dont breed well in captivity, but I don't think it's sick. She'he has got good coloring and eats, just isnt schooling and is heding in plants and under rocks.

Any thoughts?

I have read from a couple of sources that male neons are more "torpedo" shaped, slighlty smaller and "skinier" while the females are more obviously round and slightly bigger. It seems to make sense when looking at my five (technically now four), three are smaller and skinier while the other two a bigger and definitely more round.

The females are larger, rounder, and fatter. When viewed from above they are wider. I do not breed these but when I was a member of Bradford and District Aquarists Society, we had a fellow member who relayed to us this information. The eggs are also light sensitive and he used to cover his tanks with sheets of newspaper and every day he'd remove a sheet until the fry were used to the light.

Does anyone know any mating "rituals" they do? This one particular fish has seemed to get wide and round over night and hangs out in one of the plants and every once in awhile, chases (for a lack of a better term) or circles (in really tight circles) the other fish.
