Okay, in surfing for info on my fish, I've been seeing a lot about NTD and how they'll lose coloration, especially on the red area. Well, I've noticed that after the light has been out on my tank, when I turn it on, the neons are all a little faded in the tail area. It doesn't take long for them to perk up and their color becomes strong again, but with all the stuff about loss of coloration being fatal, I'm starting to worry.

Is it normal for neons to fade a little when the light is out? I thought they liked low or no light. Should I be worried? They don't seem to be suffering any. It's always a feeding frenzy when I toss food in, they school just fine and chase each other around the tank. Any ideas? I thought they were just sleeping and lost some color then. I just want to make sure there's nothing to worry about.

Yes nothing to worry about completely normal for there colours to fade when they are a sleep, and also when you do turn light back on they are pale, then there colour returns back.

I thought that was probably normal since they've been doing it for three weeks with no ill effects. I just wanted to make sure. Never hurts to double check.

All fish have the ability to change colour, some more than others.
they use it to comunicate and canaflarge.
Theres no point in displaying if on one can see it.
The only time to worry is if they stay that way, as it can indicate illness in inderviduals, or poor water with all.

Thanks. I like to know the why of things and that makes perfect sense. :)
