So, I have an empty 10 gallon tank that I want to set up for these tiny cichlids. What is the best way to raise the hardness of water? Should I use something like Seachem Tanganyika Buffer? Does argonite sand work better? What are my options?

It swings between 100ppm and 125 ppm, depending on the day. The water system runs off of multiple wells, so it varies.

I was thinking crushed coral as an insert for my filter would initially raise the tank hardness. Then I could use a buffer for added water.

Crushed coral would only raise the PH I believe

Crushed coral will raise GH and KH as well, but not that much. It also depends on the pH - the lower the pH, the more that will dissolve.
