Neighbour Died & I Don't Know What To Do Please Help

Like I mentioned before are you sure the water that is running out is salty?? As it may be top up water.

I did dip my finger in it and it didn't taste particularly salty but there are signs around the top of the water container that something has been added to it. Mixed the water and H2 Ocean powder together in the quantites recommended on the tub, left it overnight to air and had to connect it to the tank this morning as the other had run out. Fingers crossed I've done it right

Sorry mate didn't realise but the way it sounded it was like no ones there to look after the fish and you saw an opportunity. I'm surprised the widow has even thought about the fish. Even if I loved fish keeping and it happened to me, I wouldn't give 2 sh1ts about them.......for a while anyway!

Hi John, :hi: to TFF and the salty side - if you are unsure how to use the refractometer maybe you could take it to a lfs and ask them to show you? I am a little concerned that the water level might just need topping up with RO water as salt does not evaporate as the water does, so it could be you have very salty water already and just need to add ro water not salted ro water. I would be very tempted to just add plain Ro for the moment until you can master the refractometer.

Found a video for you on youtube, hope it helps

Good luck and good on you for being such a great neighbour

bearing in mind the tragic circumstances wouldn;t it make more sense to give the fish to a local store, let the widow deal with what she has to deal with without worrying about something as "trivial" in the grandscheme of things as the fish

Well said! Exactly what i was thinking!

I have been asked by the widow to take care of the fish until she feels able to make a decision about what to do with them. Like you said in the grand scheme of things it's not top of the list for her to sort out. I am only trying to do what she has asked me to do by looking after the fish as best I can. I don't think she'd be to impressed if, when returning home, she found I had given the fish away do you! I am looking for useful advice on how to care for them and frankly these comments aren't helpful.

Eh I wasn;t having a pop at you and theres nothing insulting about my comment from reading your thread it appeared common sense in my eyes but seeing as you have taken the fish on at the request of the widow its great your asking for the advice

the journals on the salty side of the forum are very useful and often contain the basic advice you will need to maintain the fish
