Need suggestions on a good fish for me...

The fish you are looking for is Acestrorhynchus isalinae

isalinae_lorenz.jpg

These are the smallest of the so called "FW baracudas" and are the only members of the Acestrorynchus genus that can be kept in a 55g with an adult size of around 6 inches.

Another species to consider are Exodon paradoxus (Buck toothed tetras) which are highly aggressive ultra predatory tetras which grow to around 5 inches, there is a profile on them here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=80625

Other than that with just a 55 you are pretty much stumped for toothy predatory Characins as anything else you are likely to encounter will almost certainly need larger accomidation.

great thanks for all the replies! keep the suggestions coming!

Those buck tooth Tetras dont look to mean but I will take your word for it... They look pretty cool

There are probably some cool pike cichlids that could go in there. But if you did get a pike cichlid, dont go for any that get over 10 inches. They are super mean and have the body shape of a pike... search around onhttp://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/5491/photos.html this site for pictures,

Hey you can get a Vampire Characin or a Peacock Bass,

Vampire Characin AKA Sabertooth Barracuda (somthing with teeth right?)

They're awsome when it comes to feeding live food.

P.S. Sorry about the big pics...

nah dont get a fish with teeth lol

i suggest if you have the $$, buy a freshwater ray there is one at our lfs and its selling for a "reasonable" $1200 :fun:

But dragon gobies are soft as a brush, they arent predatory in any way unless your happen to be a small invertabrate, they arent aggressive, they are shy and more than likley its gonna get picked onhimself............

Bichirs are nice. probly not as aggressive as you want but theyre still pretty nice and get pretty big for a 55 gallon.
